SensoryTexture Collages
Provide a variety of textured materials, like sandpaper,cotton balls,soft yarn,etc and let your toddler glue them onto a piece of heavy card stock. Depending on the toddlers age, they may enjoy making pictures, sorting by type or just creating an all different texture collage. (ZB)(CD,22)(CA,37) Smells Like Infuse cotton balls with various scents, including recognizable oils or extracts (vanilla, vinegar, cinnamon, perfume, peppermint, lemon oil) and place in 35mm film canisters with pinholes punched in the top. Other canisters can have small amounts of other items inside (diced onion, peanut butter, coffee grounds). Allow toddlers to smell and compare them, and discuss the various smells with them - what they smell like, what they remind them of and where they come from (ZB)(CD,22) Sound Memory Game Put "pairs" of objects that make distinct sounds (beans, pennies, jingle bells) in paper cups and cover with construction paper, then label the "lids" with paired images. Turn upside down and play a memory matching game with sound (ZB)(CD,22,24) Cracking Egg Shells Save egg shells and clean thoroughly. Give a bowl of egg shells to the toddler and allow him/her to crack them with their hands or another tool.(PCE)(CD,22) Gel Bags Squeeze a bottle of hair gel into a zip lock bag. Add glitter and letter beads, or whatever you would like to put in there. Add food coloring.Tape the bag shut with duck tape to make sure they don''t explode. Racing Have the kids line up in the gym and say " On your mark, Get Set, Go" (MM)(PDH,13) Stepping Stones Connect the stepping stones to make a circle and have the child try and walk across and balance. Creative Expression Painting
Place a splat mat down. Get a canvas and use painter tape to write any word you want(I.E in this example it was LOVE).Put fingers paints on a paper plate and let the toddler go crazy. When the paint is dried. Take the painters tape off. (DG)(CD,22)(CA,37) Paint with Toy Cars Grab any kind of toy car or truck. Pour different color paints on a piece of paper and then let the child run the toy car or truck through the paint so it makes tire tracks on the paper.(PB)(CD,22)(CA,37) Sponge painting Cut up sponges and put a clothes pin at the top,so the toddler can grip it easily. Put some paint on a paper plate and tape down paper to the table and let the toddler explore and paint!(PB))(CD,22,25) Play-Dough Hair Tape a picture of the child onto a piece of construction paper. Slip the paper into a page protector and tape to the table all along the edges. Allow toddler to stick play-dough on the mat as hair or anything else. (PB))(CD,22,25) |
